Filming for Live Performances Workshop

Join us for a two-day comprehensive workshop in learning the craft of filming for live performances!

Participants will learn the basics of lensing, camera angles, positioning, and timing while filming live performances such as concerts, DJ sets, and sound and movement performances. Participants will gain an understanding of necessary video equipment, lens focal lengths, selective lens focus, camera positioning for live performances, along with short portions on multicam editing.

The workshop will have two portions: a comprehensive technical workshop preparing you for filming a simulated live performance that will work with video equipment, lenses, and support, and going over concepts to better understand the decision we make in real time while filming live performances, and two simulated live performances by a band and DJ.

About Michael Bagnato

Michael Bagnato is a Pittsburgh-based artist and educator specializing in experimental films shot on analog film formats such as Super 8mm, 16mm, and 35mm. Michael's themes center on the ephemeral and the natural world, interconnectedness, non-duality, and play, and his imagery seeks to subvert innocuous images of light and texture into something rhythmic and transitory.
